Currently I'm ranked 597 out of 6574.

Slowly climbing the ranks

Anyway, I'm big enough that threats/attacks from player unranked (you only become ranked once you are over 1500) are irrelevant.

Now, one of the best ways to gain resources is to "fleet crash" a player.

This is when you find their fleet in orbit around one of their planets, send in a bigger fleet to take them out, then send in your "recyclers" to clean up the debris (you get 30% of what it cost to build that ship).

In ogame, fleets take realtime to get there. So you can send off your fleet, it'll tell you it'll take 1hr 25 minutes to get for example. If you're online you can see the enemy fleets coming at you.

So I find a nice target, and send in the fleet. He's online, so the messages start.

Now my messages aren't exact, as I don't get an outgoing box, so they are approx.

Clueless Newb 1 :

"I noticed that you have some fleets heading to my planet. I just want you to know that I am gonna fleetsave. so if you continue your attack you will get nothing. if you recall now you can save yourself some time and attack someone else or whatever."

My response :

"Oh well, fuel has been spent, I'll let them do a trip anyway"

Now fleetsaving is the act of sending your fleet to another location, to avoid the bigger fleet. Ogame is just like the ocean, there is always a bigger fleet out there (and even if you are the number 1 player, a few players can gang up to take you out). This definition of fleetsaving will play an important part later.

Clueless Newb 1 :

"you will get only 5000 metal and 12000 crystal 5000 deuterium thats it and thers 2 other friends in my alliance that will attack you have a nice death.
oh ya i'm attacking u also "

And yep, I'm being attacked. By 3 players. Now firstly I had checked his alliance, it was full of newbs plus one player ranked at 1400.

Here's the clincher. These players are sending in fleets that are going to be annihliated by my defense in the first round of combat. Remember the recycling bit? Yep, they are sending their fleets to me to be crashed.

I now make a tactical mistake. I should have kept my big mouth shut.

I respond :

"If you want to make it an alliance war, feel free I'll get the boys to vote on a formal declaration of war.

You do realise my points is almost that of your entire alliance? And the points of our alliance is roughly 10 times yours?"

Stupid me. This then scared off 2 of the attackers.

But one of the attackers continued.

Clueless Newb 3 :

"Hmmmm.Hello I'm attacking you cause some people from my alliance want me to. SO if u want me to cancel the attackt ell me. Cause I dont want to get kill by ur alliance. So tell me as soon as possible.

Psycho"

I didn't respond.

Clueless Newb 3 (closer to time his fleet would hit) :

"mmm. Hello I attacking you cause some people from my alliance told me to attack you. But I saw ur points and all that so if u want me to stop tell me as soon as possible PLEASE.

Psycho"

I don't want to lose this fish. So I sent him the following :

"Seriously, feel free to attack me. I won't retaliate or get my alliance buds to do the same.

Word of honour, I'll explain why in a couple of hours"

Later I then told him the fact his attack couldn't scratch my defenses, meant I got a whole bunch of resources off him. He hasn't responded yet.

Clueless Newb 2 recalled his fleet. I sent him a vaguely insulting message, trying to provoke him into attacking. This was his response.

"well, we dont want to stert a war,so im gonna cacel mi fleets ok, Iwas just looking out for mi friends. well maybe some day we can have a nice war but now is not the time. well thats all i got to say, so Bye..."

I'll send a few battleships his way tomorrow to try and annoy him into attacking me.

Back to clueless newb 1. My fleet hit him, and broke him.

Note, he got confused on what fleetsaving actually was. He saved his resources, but left his fleet there for me to destroy....which was what I was actually after.

The hit was enough to wallop him back to newbie protection mode (under 5000 points).

And then he sent me the following messages.

"in 11 hours i will be sending 147 ships to you

and then

Which of course I reported as an insult, netting the poor guy a 24 hour ban on top of his ass whooping
